Do Not Call Register in force

Administrator | 14 June 2007
Retailers must ensure compliance

commenced on 31 May 2007. The ARA was successful in obtaining a number of exemptions for retailers however if you are engaged in telemarketing, which includes phoning consumers for specific store nights, customer deals and promotions you must ensure you are compliant or you may face significant penalties.

A telemarketing call includes a call to offer, supply, provide, advertise or promote goods or services, a business opportunity or an investment opportunity or calls to solicit donations. It is illegal, without consent, for any non-exempt telemarketer whether they are Australian or an overseasestablished company to contact anyone who is registered under the Do Not Call Register.

General information about the register is available on our website www.ara.com.au but a more comprehensive guide is available by contacting the ARA on (02) 9290 3766.
