The Building Business Skills for Retailers program in now underway in Moonee Valley as part of a joint initiative of the Victorian Government’s StreetLife program, the City of Moonee Valley and the Australian Retailer Association.
The series of workshops targeted at store owners, managers, key retail personnel and businesses that deal with retailers covers topics such as: • Buying and stock management; • Financial forecasting; • Store layout and visual merchandising; • Advertising and promotions; • Store systems, policies and procedures; and • Retail customer service and selling.
The program is delivered in four workshops and additional one-on-one mentoring is available to eligible participants. Some of the stores in the Moonee Valley district that have received mentoring include Chef’s Essentials, Pets Wonderland, Mooney Ponds Card and Gift Store, The Frame Shop, Interior2U, Divine Chocolates, Scrappy Jules, Centreway Firearms, Ready Mr Musig and Savvy.
Some of the benefits of the program include improved retail skills and knowledge, better financial forecast and budgeting skills, an enhanced ability to develop and implement business strategies and knowledge on how to evaluate a business with the supply of an audit checklist.
