Following a request by the Minister for Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, Julia Gillard, the Australian Fair Pay Commission announced on 18 December 2007 that it will discontinue its review of junior and training wages.
The issue of junior and training wages will instead be addressed as part of the award modernisation process to be undertaken by the Government.
As part of this award modernisation process the ARA will continue to lobby for the maintenance of junior and training rates of pay as a means of developing strong careers in the retail industry.
