AFPC calls for submissions to the 2008 Minimum Wage Review

Administrator | 14 February 2008

The Australian Fair Pay Commission is calling for submissions to its 2008 Minimum Wage Review stating that it is "interested in receiving a wide range of views on relevant issues and ... again encourages all Australians to participate".

The ARA will again make a submission on behalf of members but also encourages members with strong views on wages at the federal level to make submissions.

The Workplace Relations Act 1996 (Cth) requires that in performing its wage setting function, the AFPC is to promote the economic prosperity of the people of Australia having regard to:

  • The capacity for the unemployed and low paid to obtain and remain in employment;
  • Employment and competitiveness across the economy;
  • Providing a safety net for the low paid; and
  • Providing minimum wages for junior employees, employees to whom training arrangements apply and employees with disabilities that ensure those employees are competitive in the labour market.

The AFPC has committed to considering any submissions it receives which indicate how this objective may be achieved. For further information see www.fairpay.gov.au
